Tim Arfons

From the time he was born in 1955, Tim Arfons was exposed to a work ethic that combined speed, excitement, showmanship and "thinking outside of the box." Growing up under the watchful eye of his father, the legendary three-time outright land speed record holder, Art Arfons, it was probably only natural Tim would follow his father's path. As he grew to adulthood, Tim watched and later began to participate in his Dad's quests in the famed "Green Monster" to be the "Fastest Man on Earth" on the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah.

Green Monster Dragster #19

Fast forward to 2012, "I've always wanted to get back into drag racing," Tim said. "So we set out to resurrect the Original Green Monster front engine turbine dragster that was the first vehicle I ever drove from back in 1972. I took it as a personal and professional challenge to see if I could build it so it could go faster than the Original Green Monster dragster.

I went overboard making everything perfect. It was as much of a show piecer as a race car. Every piece on the engine was polished. This was my final tribute to the car my father and I built that I campaigned in the early 1970's. I made several test passes in the fall of 2012 at Quaker City Motorsports Park and on its second run, it had a better E.T. than the Original car and I even shut it off at 700 feet.

In October of 2012, it went 170 mph. Eventually, it ran its best 7.15 at 201 mph." Green Monster #19 is still performing in Europe.
